Fisher Lumber Company No. 3 – Two Truck Heisler

I am pleased to report that Brian Allison, a visitor to www.steamlocomotive.info has supplied us with a photo of Fisher Lumber Company No. 3, a two-truck Heisler that was long said to be located at Rogers Lumber in Ferriday, Louisiana. The photo is shown below:

We’d been trying, for some time, to determine whether this locomotive still existed, and are grateful for the confirmation.

Changes to Steamlocomotive.info

We’ve made a few changes to the website that are worth noting (and many more are coming).

Where a country’s locomotives are divided by state, province or region, the page that displays a single locomotive will no display location as City, State, Country rather than just City, State. This was based on visitor feedback to the effect that people often didn’t know what country a particular state was located.
Even if a locomotive was flagged as “Scrapped” in the Status field, it was still counted as a locomotive for the purpose of the database and statistics, even though it no longer existed. So we’ve modified the routine that counts locomotives (globally, nationally, or by region) to count the number of scrapped locomotives in that region and subtract that number from the number of locomotives in that region. Scrapped locomotives are still in the database (and often have photos!). They simply aren’t counted as an existing locomotive anymore.
Fixed a bug in the page that displays Chinese provinces that would, under some circumstances, distort the page formatting.
On the front page of the website there’s a table that displays, among other things, the number of locomotives with photos, the number without, the number of photo albums and so forth. We added a couple of lines to this part of the display to include Total Locomotives (this is all the locomotives in the database minus the number of scrapped locomotives.), and Scrapped Locomotives. You may notice that if you add the number of locomotives with photos and the number of locomotives without photos, the number will be larger than the Total Locomotives number. That’s because we have photographs of some of the scrapped locomotives.

Hanomag 0-4-0T in Brazil

Horst Wolff, a frequent contributor to steamlocomotive.info provided this photo of Batalhao Ferroviario No. 3 a Hanomag 0-4-0T located in Rio Negro, Parana, Brazil. It is obviously being well cared for on display, but it did call my attention to a problem with the website. If you follow this link you’ll see that the location listed as Rio Negro, Parana. If you weren’t aware that Parana is a state in Brazil, you’d likely not know what country the locomotive was in. This came about because the database was originally designed for the U.S. only and under that assumption, displaying just the city and state seemed reasonable. So…the code is being modified and shortly it’ll display City, State and Country for those countries where we divide the data by state or province.

We’ve recently received a photo of this locomotive from John Park, and the locomotive is said to be on display at the Mathews estate in Langston, Ontario. This is what the January, 1925 Davenport product looks like:

We have conflicting information as to the locale and status of this little critter, but the Langston location seems most likely based upon what we have. A very pretty cosmetic restoration. If steamlocomotive.com lists this locomotive at all, I’ve been unable to locate it.

Duplicate Locomotives in Eastern Europe

Somehow, back about two years ago when we were doing data entry from lists and spreadsheets we ended up with a LOT of duplicates in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately there appears to have been two data sources separated in time by about 4 years. Thus some of the duplicates are shown in more than one location. We’re working on clearing these duplicates up, and do apologize for our tardiness in noticing this.
